Upsala Area Schools students have been getting the chance to engage in age-appropriate character development lessons in their homerooms this year through a program called Be Good People. Be Good People was developed by St. Croix River Education District and used by many Minnesota school districts such as Hinckley-Finlayson, North Branch, East Central, Pine City, and Rush City.
This program is broken into 5 pillars: Self- Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making. Some example lesson topics are identifying your feelings, showing respect, accepting consequences of your actions, managing stress, growth mindset, dealing with making mistakes or disappointment, etc. We are excited for our students to be able to start practicing some of the things they are discussing in these lessons both at school and at home.
Please reach out to the office if you are interested in being a part of our school's Social-Emotional Learning committee where we get to discuss our school's character development program.

New reading material arrived today for the high school and the books should be processed and on the shelves very soon! More should be arriving soon along with the new books for the elementary!
