Dave Nilson graduated in 1974 and lettered in baseball, basketball, football, and track. He was also named captain of both the basketball program and the football program.

Dave was named to the All-Prairie Conference team, the Little Falls All-Area team, and the St. Cloud All-Area team in football, while also receiving the first two honors again in basketball.

After high school, Dave attended Golden Valley Community College, where he earned a spot on the baseball team as a starting pitcher for two years. After college, Dave punched two trips to the baseball state tournament with the Upsala town team in his 11 years of playing on the squad. He also took up running, and has completed seven marathons since graduating from Upsala in 1974.
